"Fear the Wrath of the Orient Express". Words like these were used to immortalize the steel terror known as the Orient Express, at Kansas City's Worlds of Fun theme park. The Orient Express opened on April 4th, 1980 as one of the largest steel roller coasters in the world. The brain child of Ron Toomer of Arrow Development, the Orient Express stood 117 feet in the air, with the crest perched on a hill side, adding to the illusion of it being even taller. A 115 foot drop sent riders at an incredible 55 miles per hour. The Orient Express was the second roller coaster in the world to feature interlocking loops, but also included the worlds first Boomerang element, better known as the Kamikaze Kurve on the OE. But the ride wasn't done with you yet, as the finale, riders would enter a wicked, twisted hunk of steel for a helix.
