Birding Thailand 4. Fourth and final installment of the 4 video series from our October 2020 trip to Thailand.
"Cover Bird"(and also appearing as the Title Bird) is the Green-tailed Sunbird (13:19). This handsome bird was photographed during our time in Doi Inthanon National Park. This park is in northern Thailand and part of the Himalayan mountain range. It's also known as "The Roof of Thailand." It was a chilly, but clear day in the park. We saw lots of great birds and met some nice people too.
Featured birds:
SPOT-BREASTED PARROTBILL—(01:54) This isn't a scientific term, but we choose to use it anyway; these birds are cute!
JERDON'S BUSHCHAT—(07:47) Was a "Lifer" for us and also our guide!
GREEN PEAFOWL—(08:45) Gorgeous males and females strutting their stuff.
COLLARED FALCONETS—(09:38) These two small raptors were keeping watch at Doi Inthanon National Park.
WHITE-CROWNED FORKTAIL—(11:09) was a study in black and white.
SUNBIRDS—Green-tailed (13:19) and Olive-backed (19:52) Beautiful!
MUSTACHED BARBET—(18:58) this cheerful and brightly colored bird was an easy one to spot.
GREEN BEE-EATER—(19:52) was encountered at the very end of our trip. So glad we got some nice photos of this one.
RED-WHISKERED BULBUL(06:50) and COMMON HOOPOE (23:08) tied for the best coiffures.
LOTS of FLYCATCHERS are scattered throughout the video. Look for the White-gorgeted, Rufous-gorgeted, Slaty-backed, Pale Blue, Ultramarine, Tickell's Blue, Hill Blue, Taiga, Red-throated and Little Pied.
Also: laughing thrushes and thrushes; leaf warblers and warblers; bulbuls; tailor birds; woodpeckers, swallows, sandpipers, niltavas; minias, prinias and munias; water redstarts and lots more.
Some other favorites:
ASIAN ELEPHANT—(13:53) This up close and personal visit while at Khao Yai National Park helped cross off an item on our bucket lists.
MACAQUES—(15:46) A mom and infant stopped to take a break while out for a walk.
THE VERY LAST BIRD on this video is the Hume's Treecreeper (24:02). Look to see how closely it blends into the tree trunk.
We had a wonderful experience during our time in Thailand. We hope to get back there again!
Locations visited on this video included: Khao Yai National Park, Doi Inthanon National Park, Mae Hia Agricultural Resarch, Demonstration and Training Center, Chiang Mai and more.
Our guide Ingkayut Sa-ar (Don) is a highly-educated naturalist and knows birds, wildlife and his native country very well. We highly recommend him and would want him to be our guide if we're ever fortunate to visit Thailand again.

Our driver Woot ensured that we were able to get all over the country comfortably and safely. He is one of the best drivers we have ever had.
Equipment used was Canon EOS 70D with Canon EF100-400mm lens and Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max.
