NPA head advocate Shamila Batohi has caused a stir at the Nkabinde inquiry after refusing to continue her testimony. She says she’s not withdrawing from the proceedings, but needs to consult her legal counsel.
At the heart of this issue was an email from a man called Aris Danikas - he was a police reservist who worked with the Cato Manor police unit - which was accused of acting as a death squad.
That unit was led by General Johan Booysen - he was charged by the NPA but those charges were eventually withdrawn - after he argued the charges were brought to stop him from investigating people linked to then President Jacob Zuma.
