In this video I explain the way I equalise the lead team with the wheel team on my forecart. Having the teams equalised ensures that each horse is pulling and can't slack off, as in a standard end-of-the-pole lead team evener arrangement used for light wagon or carriage work. Total cost of the equaliser assembly would be under thirty dollars and most of that is the chain and clevises at today's prices. The equaliser bar itself is a 1x3 rectangular tube about ten inches long with 3 holes drilled in it for the clevises, like a tiny short evener. You could use the same thing on a larger hitch, 4 abreast in front of a four abreast, but the chain runs up the pole from the point of draft so it wouldn't work on 3 abreast in front of 3 abreast.
