I was there on October 30, 2025, at Jack Idle Night Club in North Sound, just a short distance from the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, as sixteen talented contenders took the stage to compete for the Antigua and Barbuda Independence Calypso Monarch crown. The night was alive with purpose, passion, and patriotism — every artist delivering their own interpretation of what Independence means to our people, a reminder of that historic moment in 1981, when Antigua and Barbuda first stood strong and independent in its internal affairs.

From the moment I entered, I could feel the anticipation in the air — bright stage lights cutting through the darkness, the sound system tuned to perfection, and a sea of supporters ready to cheer their favorites. Each performer brought something unique: humor, social commentary, and that powerful calypso rhythm that carries both message and melody. I positioned myself to capture not just the singers but the reactions — the smiles, the claps, the flags waving, and the nods from elders who’ve seen Independence grow through music and time.
