The Bruins edged out the Canadiens 3-2 at the Bell Centre as Boston’s penalty-kill stood tall. Marat Khusnutdinov opened the scoring for Boston thanks to a nice pass from David Pastrnak, who tallied two assists.
Shortly after, the Canadiens answered when Jake Evans netted a short-handed goal.
In the second period, Boston struck again: Mason Lohrei scored on a point blast, and then Viktor Arvidsson notched his 200th NHL goal on the power-play.
Montreal pulled one back in the third via Cole Caufield, showing some push in the final minutes—but Boston held on thanks in large part to perfect penalty-killing (7-for-7) and a solid performance from goalie Jeremy Swayman (26 saves).
Montreal, meanwhile, went 0-for-7 on the power play and dropped their third straight regulation game.
Notably, Boston lost defenseman Charlie McAvoy to a nasty shot to the face and Arvidsson left late with a lower-body injury.
