Francesco Turrisi- piano
Marco Ambrosini- nyckelharpa
In this unique duo, pianist Francesco Turrisi and nyckelharpa virtuoso Marco Ambrosini come together to explore the fertile crossroads of early music, traditional Italian and Mediterranean sounds, and improvisation. Drawing from their deep roots in historical performance and contemporary practices, they create an intimate sonic world where ancient timbres and modern sensibilities coexist. The unusual pairing of piano and nyckelharpa opens up surprising textures and colors, offering listeners a fresh and timeless musical experience.
Francesco Turrisi is an Italian pianist and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges the worlds of jazz, early music, and Mediterranean traditions. A long-time collaborator of Rhiannon Giddens and ensemble L’Arpeggiata, he is known for his genre-defying approach and has released critically acclaimed solo and ensemble recordings. His music reflects a deep engagement with improvisation and historical forms, reimagining ancient sounds through a contemporary lens.
Marco Ambrosini is a pioneering nyckelharpa player, composer, and researcher who has helped bring this rare instrument into new musical contexts. With a background in early music and a passion for innovation, he has collaborated with leading ensembles across Europe and founded groundbreaking projects like Ensemble Supersonus and Oni Wytars. His work fuses medieval, traditional, and experimental elements with exceptional virtuosity and depth.
