Hover! : WinNT 3.51 Fun And Games (PCEM)

Hover! is a Windows 95 classic. However, I didn't know that this game could run on Windows NT 3.51 as well. Like with Office97, I had to give Hover! a try under it as well, and it ran very good. The performance was quite acceptable. One has to remember that DOS was still the platform for PC gamers at the time.

The main problem with Windows as a gaming platform was that the overhead imposed by the Windows GUI placed a significant overhead on games. Such, games on Windows didn't quite run as good as there DOS counterparts. However, with the arrival of the Pentium Processors making up for the shortcomings of the restrictions imposed by the GUI overhead of Windows, games were becoming quite capable. Microsoft released Hover! to demonstrate the feasibility of a fast-paced FPS running from within Windows. It had to be noted that around this same time, the id team was working on what would become Doom95, which would really start to demonstrate fast-paced gaming action on Windows, while the 3DFX Voodoo Accelerator was just around the corner.

However, any excuse to play Hover! is a welcomed one. It's now time for me to capture the flag!

PCEM is emulating a PC with a Intel Pentium Processor running at 133MHz, 32MB's of RAM, S3 864 SVGA Video Adapter. Windows NT is running at the screen resolution of 800 by 600, 16-bit display depth. The Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 is also installed.
