With an outstanding follow up to his Debut Album Ross From Friends performs music new and old Live at the Castle and Falcon Birmingham. A packed room of anticipated revellers enjoy a set of live electronic music like no other act to date. Producer DJ and now father Felix Weatherall starts 2022 with a U.K tour across Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and London followed by a month of US and Canada dates in March returning to Europe In the spring followed by a string of U.K festival dates in the summer.
The new Album Tread feels like an affirmation of the artists new direction and sound. The Lo-Fi house/techno wave that surged into popularity with releases from DJ Boring, Palms Trax, DJ Seinfeld, Chaos in the CBD and many others energised electronic music attracting new fans, both familiar and unfamiliar with house and techno. Saturated atmospheric dance concertos dripping with distorted nostalgia have been swapped for a no nonsense unfiltered approach employing granular synthesis, breaks, complex synthesizer melodies and the usual ingenious sampling and composition styles.
In this performance "Revellers," "The Daisy," Love Divide," "Spatter/Splatter," "A Brand New Start," "Life in a Mind," are carefully woven with earlier releases from his Scarlett Tigre Label "Burner," "Suzinak" and "Romeo Romeo" from the 2017' "The Outsiders" EP on Magicwire, "Epiphany" from the "Epiphany" EP on Brainfeeder, then of course "Talk to me You'll Understand" from his definitive "You'll Understand EP on the Lo-Fi house/techno giant Lobster Theremin records.
With Felix in control of launching and manipulating samples and arrangements guitarist Jed and Saxophonist John also contribute to the electronic elements of the sound. Saxophonist John qualifies as an accomplished tenor player who also goes by the name of Cameo Blush with Techno and IDM releases on Scarlett Tigre, All My thoughts and Unknown Artist 001. John can be seen to be in control of a prophet synthesiser module alongside a custom modular synthesiser setup that contributes to the new direction of the Ross from Friends sound.
Guitarist Jed is often recognised for replicating the powerful guitar solo in "Talk to me You'll Understand," making eclectic and unique sounds with a Boss multi effects pedal routed in his Fender Mustang. To the left of his Boss effects pedal is a Roland TR8S Drum machine that can only be responsible for drum patterns and samples in addition to the stems launched from Felixes Ableton session.
