In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the SIU Salukis took on the Georgia Bulldogs. At the time, I was working in Indianapolis and this was not the primary broadcast game in the area. The game was joined in progress several times until the last several minutes of the second half.
The 2001-2002 Salukis were one of the best teams SIU ever put on the court; going 28-8 and reaching the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Stars on this team included Kent Williams, Rolan Roberts, Jermaine Dearman, Marcus Belcher, Brad Korn, Tyrese Buie and Sylvester Willis, along with freshmen Darren Brooks and Stetson Hairston. This was Bruce Weber’s fourth season as the Saluki head coach.
