"Why does my smartphone have less memory?"
Have you ever noticed that your smartphone has less memory than what was advertised? The same is also true for many other devices, such as laptops, tablets, usb thumb drives, external hard drives, and so on. Weirdly, this wasn't the case for CDs though. So why are there these discrepancies? And why are there inconsistencies - eg CDs having the correct advertised amount of memory, but DVDs not having the correct amount?
A lot of it has to do with how memory is measured.
This episode helps to shed light on why this is, whilst educating you on how computers measure things, and why the way memory is measured is similar to exchanging one currency into another. We like to take the scenic route with our explanations, so expect to find out more about Bits and Bytes, and other little tidbits of information!
