Trout love hanging out near a pile of logs (also called woody debris) for a few solid reasons:
Cover from predators – Logs give trout protection from birds, larger fish, and other predators. It’s like their underwater fortress.
Break from the current – Fast-moving water can tire them out, so they use the logs as a current break. They’ll chill in the slower water right behind or under the logs.
Ambush feeding – Trout are opportunistic feeders. Hiding near structure lets them dart out to snatch insects or small fish drifting by with the current.
Cooler, oxygen-rich water – These spots often have better oxygen levels and temps, especially if the logs are in riffles or shaded runs.
So basically, logs are trout real estate gold. #flyfishdelawhere #fishing #rainbowtrout #trout #troutflyfishing #flyfishing #troutfishing #euronymphing #dryflyfishing
