Buckle up for Days 3 through 5, where we officially hit our Japanese stride! We kicked things off with a whirlwind day trip to Kyoto to conquer the "rushing" orange gates of Fushimi Inari—it’s a hike, but the energy is pure magic.
Back in Osaka, we dove headfirst into the neon glow of the Shinsaibashi night market, eating our way through every street food stall in sight. To balance the chaos, we spent a surreal afternoon at the Osaka Aquarium and shared a quiet moment of reflection looking out over the sparkling Osaka Bay. Finally, it was time for the ultimate transition: boarding the legendary Shinkansen. Watching the countryside blur by at 300 km/h was the perfect finale to our Osaka chapter. From ancient shrines to high-speed rails, this leg of the journey was a total rush. Osaka, you were incredible—Tokyo, here we come!
Suggested Places to visit in Osaka (Including Day Trips):
Legendary:
Sumiyoshi Taisha (Osaka): One of Japan’s oldest shrines, famous for its beautiful high-arched red bridge. It was built before Buddhism arrived in Japan!
• Himeji Castle (Hyogo): A short Shinkansen ride away, this "White Heron" castle is the most spectacular original samurai fortress in the country.
• Shitennoji Temple (Osaka): The very first Buddhist temple in Japan, founded in 593 AD—the architecture feels truly ancient and sacred.
• Tomb of Emperor Nintoku (Sakai): A massive, keyhole-shaped forest island that is one of the largest tombs in the world.
• Fushimi Inari (Kyoto): The legendary "rushing" shrine with thousands of vermilion gates you already visited—definitely the MVP of the legendary list!
Modern (Architecture & Tech)
• Abeno Harukas (Osaka): A sleek skyscraper and currently one of the tallest in Japan. The view from the "Harukas 300" deck is breathtaking.
• teamLab Botanical Garden (Osaka): A modern art installation where trees and flowers come alive with digital lights after dark.
• Umeda Sky Building: Famous for its "Floating Garden" observatory that connects two towers—it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.
• Namba Parks: A massive shopping complex with a "rooftop" that is actually a 10-story sloping park built right into the architecture.
• Nakanoshima Museum of Art: A giant, sleek black box that looks incredibly futuristic and houses stunning contemporary works.
Must See (Iconic Icons)
• Dotonbori (The Glico Man): The beating heart of Osaka’s nightlife and the "living room" of the city.
• Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan: One of the world’s largest, where you can see massive whale sharks gliding through the water.
• Universal Studios Japan (Super Nintendo World): A must for the "Mario Kart" experience and that iconic "Level Start" feeling!
• Kuromon Ichiba Market: Known as "Osaka's Kitchen"—this is where you find the best grilled seafood and wagyu skewers.
• Shinsekai & Tsutenkaku Tower: A retro-themed district that feels like 1960s Japan; it’s colorful, quirky, and filled with "Billiken" statues for good luck.
Nature Lovers (Scenic Escapes)
• Minoo Park (Osaka): A gorgeous forest valley with a stunning waterfall and a famous local snack: fried maple leaves!
• Nara Park: Where the deer roam free—the ultimate blend of nature and spiritual history.
• Expo '70 Commemorative Park: Home to the giant "Tower of the Sun" and sprawling gardens that are perfect for a picnic.
• Mount Kongo: The highest peak in Osaka, offering fantastic hiking trails that make you forget the city is right there.
• Arashiyama Bamboo Grove (Kyoto): The world-famous towering bamboo stalks that create a soothing, "rustling" soundtrack as you walk.
