Rescue of 37ft Catamaran in gale force winds

Solent CG paged our LOM at 10:50 to report that a 12m catamaran with 2 PoB 9NM SW of Newhaven had suffered engine failure and the crew felt due to the weather and sea conditions they would require assistance to enter Newhaven harbour. The crew were paged at 10:58 and the lifeboat left the side at 11:06 arriving on scene at 11:32. Having checked all was well aboard we offered a tow and asked that the vessel come head to sea and lower the reefed mainsail. When that had been done our tow was passed and we made our way at approximately 6 knots to Newhaven. Inside the harbour the tow was first shortened and then the vessel was brought alongside the lifeboat before being placed on the marina fuel berth into the care of Newhaven CG at 12:57.
