Cocteau Twins - Lazy Calm (strange diction). A VICTORIALAND REMIX.

Lazy Calm is the opening track to Cocteau Twins' stunning, 'acoustic' album Victorialand.
For once one of their titles is actually descriptive of the music that it contains.
A long, gliding intro with hushed guitar chords and occasional whiffs of sax (!) are conjuring a lazy, calm tension which softly explodes into one of Liz's most delicate, comforting vocals as the guitars continue their skybound spirals.

It´s the perfect canvas to create an extended, trip-hop, ambient mix. Although I wanted to create a version of VICTORIALAND WITH BEATS, I decided to take my time until a mellow beat finally kicks in.

For this mix I created an instrumental version of the fantastic "Strange Addiction" (pun with the remix title intended) by Spooky, who had recorded with Liz before. I tranposed it a few notes deeper to match the harmonies. The result is everything I wished it could be: The lazy calmness gets an undertow of moody synth-pulse, the beat is re-assuring and the coda of the song is dramatic and chilling.
In short: IT`S EPIC!

The mix was done live, with no programming or post-edits. Just 2 songs played in tandem.

This is the first blend of my VICTORIABLEND - an imaginary Cocteau Twins remix album. Watch out for a new video every uneven day between April 29 and May 17. I remixed the whole album plus one bonus track
