MIPS CEO On the Acquisition of ARC from Synopsys

GlobalFoundries today announced it is buying Synopsys’ ARC processor IP solutions business, including its teams of engineers and designers, and integrating it into the MIPS business.

This is a big move within the RISC processor business, in a market that includes ARM, ARC, MIPS, Tensilica and RISC-V architectures. Having MIPS and ARC under umbrella makes them a potentially formidable force especially in the world of physical AI and edge intelligence.

Speaking to EE Times about the acquisition, MIPS CEO said, "MIPS and ARC is a great marriage." Talking about the opportunities in physical AI, he added, "It;s pretty natural putting two of the world’s most successful RISC entities together to go attack and deliver compelling solutions in a physical AI world. I think it’s intuitive."
