A discussion relative to cost and issues typical with junk pile saws...and SOME work around's,
This really is a conversation about the concept of finding a logger or dealer where you can get a pile of worn out OEM pro level saws and boil them into running saws for your self and selling some to pay for the build effort....actually end up with way better saws than Aftermarket for more elbow grease but much less money over the duration of the project. AN alternative to kit saw for those with the sources of saws and skills to completely rebuild them. NOT for everyone. First not everyone has loggers to ping off of and a good parts supply. AND not everyone has a location along with tools and skills to do this level of rebuilding. AND kit saw are cheap and clean..:) Clean being a huge plus...:))
Another point is selling a rebuilt OEM saw lets you sleep better. The quality of the parts is there and a OEM saw is in fact an easier sale to make. ANY time you ha e AM parts in a saw, first you HAVE to let a potential customer know that if your have any integrity at all. And AM parts will most certainly effect the resale of a saw. For your own personal saw? That's a different story, you can ethically do what ever trips your trigger...as you are the person running it.
