📍 Location & How to Get There
Wadi Al Disah is located in the Tabuk Province of Saudi Arabia, in the village of Al Disah.
From the city of Tabuk it’s about a 2 hour drive (roughly 250 km) to the village. Once at the village, the final stretch into the canyon may require a 4×4 if you want to go deeper into the valley.
🕰 History & Natural Facts
The name “Al Disah” translates roughly as “Valley of Palm Trees,” a nod to the surprising green oasis found amidst the rugged desert terrain.
The valley forms part of a larger system of seasonal waterways and tributaries (wadis), stretching through the region and eventually toward the Red Sea.
Wadi Al Disah contains ancient buildings and inscriptions traced back to the era of the Nabateans, indicating long-standing human presence in what now feels so remote.
The valley floor sits approximately 400 m above sea level, and because of the springs and vegetation, it offers a cooler, more verdant environment than much of the surrounding desert.
🎯 Why It’s Special
This place combines dramatic natural landscapes with peaceful oasis-like pockets of greenery and water. In the golden hours, the sandstone cliffs light up, the palms cast shadows, and the contrast between desert and life is striking.
💡 Tips for Visiting
Go during the cooler months (roughly November to March) when the weather is more comfortable.
If you’re planning to go beyond the main road into the canyon, a 4×4 is advised — regular cars may struggle on the sandy tracks.
Stay for sunset if you can—the light changes the scene dramatically and is perfect for filming.
Respect the natural environment and cultural heritage: please leave no trace, and treat local sites and inscriptions with care.
