My upgrade time: 42 minutes total
FIRST RUN UPDATES REBOOT IF NECESSARY:

sudo freebsd-update fetch install; sudo pkg update; sudo pkg upgrade

upgrading FreeBSD 13.0 TO 13.1

IMPORTANT
** match: freebsd-version -k and uname -r **
kernel vs.

Reboot the system if the outputs differ, repeat to check versions until they match!!!

Upgrade command: sudo freebsd-update -r 13.1-RELEASE upgrade


You may see (probably will see):
reboot & again run: /usr/sbin/freebsd-update install

AND/OR:

To install the downloaded upgrades, run "sudo /usr/sbin/freebsd-update install".

AND/OR

Kernel updates have been installed. Please reboot and run
"/usr/sbin/freebsd-update install" again to finish installing updates.


The system can be configured to automatically check for updates once every day by adding this entry to /etc/crontab:

@daily root freebsd-update cron

I really enjoy the fact that the instructions for a upgrade is listed in their handbook and works without interference.

Also that everything just worked without stress of broken packages or the system itself. All my software worked without fiddling around to fix something. All editing is/was performed in the system you see in the video.
