President Rodrigo Roa Duterte condoles with the bereaved families of the casualties in the recent motorboat capsizing incident along the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait as he visits the wake of the victims at Barangay Balabago in Jaro, Iloilo City on August 7, 2019.
On 3 August 2019, three (3) ferryboats sank off the waters between Iloilo City and Guimaras due to strong waves and winds caused by a low pressure area (LPA). As of the latest, there are thirty-one (31) confirmed deaths due to the mishap.
In a statement, the Office of the President (OP) directed all concerned departments and agencies to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the tragedy and refined the coordination efforts in safeguarding the safety and security of the public during the monsoon season.
