FastSewn is the most important advance in textile finishing in over a decade. It is the next leap for CNC technology--this time applied to textile. It furthers the advance of laser cutting textiles by adding finished sewing in the same device. Laser cut then finish sew. FastSewn is also the most important hardware development at Printing United Expo. Without being able to sew, you cannot bring the workflow back to the United States--or Europe for that matter. Who is going to sew everything? The answer is: the CNC operator can cut everything and then sew everything--completely automated with digital files. The same files that will be used to create custom frames on a CNC router. Marketing puffery trumpeting pedestrian products as 'game changing' and 'revolutionary' is all so tiresome. FastSewn is one of the rare instances where the designation is earned. FastSewn is going to change the way we make things, lots of things.
Steen Mikkelsen and his team of engineers have changed the digital textile industry forever. Rooms full of sewers will be gone. In their place will be rooms full of FASTSEWN - Mikkelsen Innovation ApS automated cut & sew tables—big ones. Rows of them. And they will be cutting & sewing complex shapes with SEG gasket, not rectangles. CNC routers like the Comagrav will fabricate the metal frames, and the same file will laser cut the fabric and then sew the SEG gasket into the finished fabric panels--always perfectly sized and finished. And I'm just describing the trade show display process, this technology can automate thousands of things we sew manually now. FastSewn cut & sew devices are going to find their way into hundreds of different niches.
Steen Mikkelsen and his team of engineers were all in attendance at PRINTING United Expo at their North American distributor, CUTWORX USA to show off their invention. The 1.8m & 3.3M have been refined and upgraded and are ready to order. Highest marks to everyone involved and invested. A new era in textile finishing begins. Hats off to Steve Aranoff Raum Divarco sr. Jim Manelski and the whole team from Denmark.
