About Paltan Bazaar in Dehradun
Paltan Bazaar gets its name because military men during the British Raj visited this place in groups on their horses, known as Paltan in Hindi. It has been a thriving shopping area since 1935.
You can shop for almost anything and everything here, from clothing, accessories, footwear, literature, handicrafts, and gift goods. The market is well known for its woollen clothing and the famous Doon Basmati rice.
The small and narrow Ghosi Galli has some amazing bakeries, such as Sunrise Bakers, who have been here for decades and continue to soothe the palate of every passer-by.
#Trivia: Paltan Bazaar had few shops till 1935; however, it became a full-fledged bazaar and major shopping centre post-independence in 1947.
Post the India-Pakistan partition, several people settled in Paltan Bazaar and started their commercial and trading activities here. Thus, you will see a culturally rich area that has a mix of people from diverse backgrounds.
It was one of the first shopping areas of Dehradun, post which several others cropped up, such as Jhanda Bazaar, Dhamawala Bazaar, and Rajpur road.
It is your one-stop destination for everything you want to buy and eat and is a must-visit tourist spot in Dehradun.
Savour the local delicacies such as Pani puri, Aloo Tikki, momos, Dahi chaat, hot dogs, buns, ice creams, and other bakery items. If you are looking for a steal deal on clothes and accessories, Paltan Bazaar has several options. From local costume jewellery to traditional Garhwali warm shawls, you can bargain and let the shopaholic in you.
