VAWT driven by Pacific winds: https://lnkd.in/eZFUybBP
This elegant structure stands 760 metres tall above sea level, with a diameter of 250 metres and an inflow area of 180,000 square metres. At a wind speed of 12 metres per second, each of these giant turbines with variable rotor blades generates an energy output of 100 megawatts. The three-part rotor blade comprises a load-bearing middle section that forms an abutment for the movable nose and tail sections. This central section serves as a structural component of the rotor, which hangs from a central mast in four sections. The 6-metre-diameter mast incorporates a lift, a staircase and vertical installations, and is connected by six azimuth bearings. Six rotor blades run straight from top to bottom and are equipped with a staircase and lift for maintenance purposes. At a wind speed of 12 m/s, the rotor blades revolve at a speed of 216 km/h, completing 4.5 revolutions per minute (rpm). The blades are connected to a hyperbolic cable net that takes on centrifugal forces and acts as back tensioning for the blades' load-bearing spar. The lightweight structure of the wind turbine allows for a power-to-weight ratio of 400 t / MW.
