Is UY Scuti The Largest Star Ever Discovered?

Uy Scuti is possibly the largest star ever discovered. It lies 9,500 light-years away in a dense starfield in the so-called Zone of Avoidance which is an area of space obscured by the Milky Way's disk. The hypergiant is really, really, really far from us and it's a variable star, meaning it changes its luminosity. This makes it too hard for us to determine its size accurately, but astronomers have some estimations.
