In this video, I tackle an unfinished project left by another hobbyist: a Walthers F40PH with a partially installed QSI DCC decoder from 2006. My goal is to get this engine running well and give it a second life using the shell of my broken Walthers F40PH.
I began by testing the locomotive with DC power. The results were limited but showed some promise. Next, I moved on to the wiring, adding power feeds from both trucks directly to the decoder. With full track power set up, I turned on the engine using DCC, and the results were impressive.
To finish the project, I installed the shell from my parts F40PH to tie everything together.
Whether you enjoy model train restoration, DCC installations, or simply appreciate a good comeback story, this video offers something for you.
Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and comment below if you've ever attempted a decoder install, especially with older technology like this.
