📖 On September 2, 1970, the song “Bell Bottom Blues” was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami. It deals with Eric Clapton’s unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, who was still George Harrison’s wife at the time.
This song was recorded before Duane Allman joined the recording sessions for “Layla and other assorted love songs.” In my opinion, it’s the best collection of songs that Eric made in his entire musical career. It’s overwhelming to hear Clapton’s heartbreaking voice and all those guitar licks without having to overproduce. In this case, as in many others, less is more.
I’m pleased to share my cover of this song as a tribute to an era that was far removed from the artifice that dominates the current musical sphere.
