MEKONG, AN EXPLORER'S EYE Film (2023)

Je suis ravi de partager avec vous mon incroyable aventure : descendre le Mékong en hydrospeed, du Tibet jusqu'au Vietnam. Soit 4400 kilomètres en immersion totale, à travers six pays, pour mieux comprendre les populations locales et leur accès à l'eau.

En Australie, j'avais découvert la rareté de l'eau. Sur le Mékong, c'était l'opposé : l'eau était abondante, mais pas forcément de qualité. J'ai vu comment cette abondance influence la vie quotidienne des habitants et les problèmes qu'elle engendre.

En octobre, j'ai relevé un défi improbable : descendre le Mékong à la nage, depuis les contreforts de l'Himalaya. Équipé d'un hydrospeed, de caissons étanches, d'une combinaison néoprène, d'un casque, de palmes, et d'un barda minimal, j'ai milité pour l'accès à l'eau potable des populations déshéritées. Les pollutions que j'ai traversées étaient bien pires que ce à quoi je m'attendais. Le Mékong est un grand déversoir d'ordures industrielles et domestiques, surtout à l'approche de l'estuaire, au Cambodge et au Vietnam.

Malgré ces considérations écologiques, cette aventure solitaire et sans assistance a été un véritable exploit sportif. J'ai nagé de jour comme de nuit, traversé des rapides en Chine et des eaux stagnantes ailleurs, trouvant souvent le gîte et le couvert chez l'habitant. À Phnom Penh, j'avais des problèmes de santé à cause de la pollution du fleuve, mais je tenais à finir mon périple.

Les derniers kilomètres au Vietnam, à l'approche de l'estuaire et des marées de la mer de Chine, ont été terribles. J'ai dû aligner mes heures de nage sur les mouvements de la mer, de jour comme de nuit.

J'ai enfin terminé ce long voyage, crotté comme un égoutier. Ma première préoccupation avant de rentrer en France était de passer des examens médicaux à Ho Chi Minh Ville pour m'assurer de ne rien avoir contracté de grave.

Aujourd'hui, je suis très heureux de vous présenter le film de cette aventure. Un grand merci à tous les partenaires qui m'ont soutenu à l'époque, à Josh et Yuri, à Albin, sa femme, et leurs enfants. Et bien sûr, un big up à la mobylette jaune qui a joué un rôle crucial dans la réalisation de ce documentaire.

Hi everyone!

I'm thrilled to share with you my incredible adventure: descending the Mekong River on a hydrospeed, from Tibet to Vietnam. That's 4,400 kilometers in total immersion, across six countries, to better understand local populations and their access to water.

In Australia, I discovered the scarcity of water. On the Mekong, it was the opposite: water was abundant, but not necessarily of good quality. I saw how this abundance influences the daily lives of the inhabitants and the problems it creates.

In October, I took on an improbable challenge: swimming down the Mekong from the foothills of the Himalayas. Equipped with a hydrospeed, waterproof containers, a neoprene suit, a helmet, fins, and minimal gear, I advocated for access to clean drinking water for impoverished populations. The pollution I encountered was far worse than I expected. The Mekong is a major dumping ground for industrial and domestic waste, especially near the estuary in Cambodia and Vietnam.

Despite these ecological considerations, this solo and unsupported adventure was a true athletic feat. I swam day and night, navigated rapids in China and stagnant waters elsewhere, often finding shelter and food with locals. In Phnom Penh, I faced health issues due to the river's pollution, but I was determined to finish my journey.

The last kilometers in Vietnam, approaching the estuary and the tides of the China Sea, were terrible. I had to time my swimming hours with the sea's movements, day and night.

I finally completed this long journey, filthy like a sewer worker. My first concern before returning to France was to undergo medical examinations in Ho Chi Minh City to ensure I hadn't contracted anything serious.

Mình vừa hoàn thành hành trình dài 4.400 km bơi theo sông Mê Kông bằng hydrospeed, từ Tây Tạng đến Việt Nam. Mục tiêu là nâng cao nhận thức về quyền tiếp cận nước sạch. Dù nước dồi dào, ô nhiễm lại nghiêm trọng, đặc biệt gần cửa sông ở Campuchia và Việt Nam. Mình bơi ngày đêm, vượt thác, đối mặt bệnh tật, và nhận được nhiều sự giúp đỡ từ người dân. Giờ đây, mình rất vui chia sẻ bộ phim về cuộc phiêu lưu này. Cảm ơn mọi người đã đồng hành và ủng hộ!
