After battling the horrible pre detonation issues with my small block 351w I finally came to the conclusion that the carb itself was the problem. I switched it out with a 750 double pumper I had on my big block and it solved the issue. In conclusion the old carb was starving the engine for fuel and part throttle. This could have been a jet issue, it also could have been a vacuum leak inside the carb causing the lean mixture but either way I am relived that it’s not pinging and pounding on the pistons constantly anymore.
