5 Minute tips for Hawaiian Steel Guitar #8

Some folks have been asking me to do a few videos on Hawaiian steel guitar, so I thought I'd maybe try and blast a quick 5 minute one out each week for a while and see if it's of any interest. It's hard to get a point across in 5 minutes, but I'll give it a whirl for a while each Tuesday.

Here's the eighth one. This one is focussed on the right hand picking, using open strings combined with fretted notes. It's a classic Hawaiian tune called Hilo March, or part of it, anyway. We have a blast playing this one with the Volcano Brothers, so I thought I'd show you a piece of it to get your right hand moving!

I'm using open G tuning for this (DGDGBD Low to High) but this would also apply to the high-bass tuning, or Dobro tuning (GBDGBD). Enjoy!
