UC Irvine Men's & Women's Cross Country swept the competition at this year's Vanguard Invitational.
UC Irvine women's cross country won the season-opening Vanguard Invitational 5K with a perfect team score of 15 points Friday at Mason Regional Park. Sophomore Liana Lee led the way with her first collegiate victory. Lee notched a meet-record 17:43.4 to finish four seconds ahead of classmate Anna Soares (17:47.6), who claimed runner-up honors. Soares saw an 18-second improvement on her top 5K time from a year ago.
UC Irvine men's cross country took home both the team and individual titles at the season-opening Vanguard Invitational 8K Friday at Mason Regional Park. Five Anteaters placed among the top-10, led by sophomore Juan Chantaca who was the individual champion with a meet-record 24:05.8. In his first race of the season, Chantaca was just under 15 seconds shy of his 8K personal record that he set at the 2024 Big West Championships.
