Here's a wonderful Yes show from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut on September 3, 1978. This was a stop on the Summer 1978 North American Tour supporting the band's about-to-be-released 'Tormato' album.
While a listenable audience recording of this show circulated as a boot called Circus Of New Heaven, it did not include the last two tracks (All Good People and Roundabout) performed that night. I decided to put everything available from the September 3rd show together with a recording of the two final tracks from the prior night's September 2nd performance at the Civic Center Exhibition Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts. This would produce a "complete" September 1978 Tormato Tour gig.
When I noticed a rare live performance of "Release, Release" in the September 2nd Springfield setlist, I included it in my compilation as well. Then I added other epic Yes pieces which were not played on September 3, 1978 but had been bounced in and out of the setlist during the 1978-1979 tours.
Those seven sometimes rarely-performed additional songs (with venues/dates noted below), melded with the 9/3/78 Circus Of New Heaven boot, provide what I consider an almost three hour dream setlist of late 1970s live Yes. With "Arriving UFO" and "Release, Release" added, this compilation includes live 1978-1979 performances of every track off the Tormato album except for "Onward".
Yes used part of Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra to open the 1978 concerts followed by a minute of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind soundtrack punctuated by dramatic thrusts of light from the elaborate rig over their revolving circular stage in the center of the arena. Yes used this CE3K intro for their 1978 and 1979 tours supporting their Tormato album and the 1980 tour backing their Drama record.
I have synched lots of Tormato era graphics and live shots to this video. The time-stamped setlist below offers each song's album title and sometimes notes about the visuals used.
