Saturday morning felt different the moment I stepped out—almost like the air itself knew this wasn’t one of our usual Sunday hikes. A rare Saturday hike, and I was joining the Hampson family on the Middle Ground Trail overlooking English Harbour, one of Antigua’s most historic and scenic corridors.
As soon as we met up, the energy felt wholesome. The Hampson family always moves like a tight unit—everyone chatting lightly, adjusting their backpacks, sharing a bit of laughter before we even hit the trailhead. I felt like I was stepping into a little family tradition, and the camera in my hand made me both participant and storyteller.
The trail greeted us with that familiar mix of cool morning breeze and warm sunlight peeking over the harbour. The ground was dry, sand-coloured, with scattered rocks baked by the week’s heat. I could hear the crunch under my shoes as I walked behind the family, capturing their pace and their togetherness on camera.
To the right, the clear blue stretch of English Harbour ran all the way out to the ocean, and Nelson’s Dockyard lay quietly behind us like an old guardian from centuries past.
The Hampsons moved steadily, not rushing, talking about the week, pointing out trees and small birds. I found myself smiling at their casual banter—it added warmth to the footage.
As we climbed the low ridges, the sunlight began to shift across the water, giving me perfect shots—those moments when you feel the footage is capturing itself.
I remember pausing sometimes just to film the silhouettes of the Hampsons walking ahead, framed by sky and sea. The Middle Ground Trail isn’t overly challenging, but it gives you views that make you stop without even realizing it.
The trail opened up to those iconic cliff views—boats below, hills in the distance, the faint hum of the marina waking up. It felt peaceful, like nature was on slow-motion mode just for us.
What stood out most in the video wasn’t just the scenery—it was the Hampson family dynamic:
• One of them occasionally looked back to check if everyone was keeping up.
• Another kept pointing out spots ideal for photos.
• Light teasing, laughter, and shared stories drifted down the trail.
• The pace adjusted naturally so the whole group stayed together.
Your footage captured those small details that make a hike feel meaningful, not just physical.
Every now and then, someone would call out, “Look at that view!”—and even though I’ve hiked Middle Ground before, their enthusiasm made it feel brand new again.
When we got to the overlook—where the harbour curves inward like a natural amphitheater—the view was breathtaking. The family paused, taking it in. I filmed the moment quietly, letting the expressions speak for themselves.
The sea breeze, the height, the morning glow… That was the heart of the hike.
A simple Saturday morning, yet completely memorable.
On the way down, the trail softened—less climbing, more open sky. Everyone seemed relaxed, talking freely, enjoying the accomplishment of starting a weekend in nature.
I caught more wide shots, capturing the family framed against the blues and greens of English Harbour. Even the shadows gave the footage a warm tone.
By the time we reached the end, is was breakfast time on the beach, it felt like the perfect Saturday ritual—exercise, scenery, family bonding, and a peaceful start to the day.
