In this video we see various clips of some of the last high floor buses still doing route service in Melbourne, the mid-engine Volvo B10M and it's rear engine counterpart, the Volvo B10B.
These venerable buses have been serving Melbourne commuters for years after many bus companies throughout the 1980's and 1990's bought them in the bucketloads. Most have been withdrawn after being replaced with more modern low floor buses, but a handful can still be seen doing route service around Melbourne. This includes buses owned by Sita Bus Lines, and CDC Melbourne out of their Sunshine and Wyndham depots.
However these remaining buses are likely to be withdrawn in the near future. CDC Melbourne has started taking delivery of their 50 new Volvo B5LH hybrids, while Sita has recently been taking delivery of new Volvo B8RLE's.
If your interested in seeing these high floor Volvo's before they're withdrawn, they can be found on the following routes:
Sita Bus Lines
Routes 431 & 432 out of Yarraville.
Route 404 Footscray - Moonee Ponds.
CDC Melbourne (Sunshine).
Routes 406 & 410 out of Footscray during peak hours.
Route 408 Highpoint - St Albans during peak hours.
CDC Melbourne (Wyndham)
Can run on any ex-Werribee depot route around Wyndham area. Best rock up to a major interchange during peak hours such as Werribee or Tarneit stations and see what pops up.
There's also another high floor bus still doing route service at Transdev, bus #300 which is a Mercedes Benz O405. However finding that bus in Transdev's vast network is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, so it hasn't been included in this video.
