Woodturning | Gnome with Spinning top hat

In this video you can see me woodturning a gnome with spinning top hat.

You've probably seen people turning gnomes, gonks or tomti on YouTube and you've certainly seen people woodturning spinning tops, but I'm pretty sure I have created the first spinning top hatted gnome!!

I'm a novice turner and of course I made a few mistakes with this little gnome, but I still feel it makes a great beginner's project. I figured I should turn the hat the opposite way around next time which will give me more room to cut the spinning top point section.

I used acrylic paint pens on top of a base coat of white acrylic paint for the hat and the pens worked well. I did try them on to bare wood initially but the effect bled somewhat. I liked watching the strips appear around his magical hat!

I really did enjoy woodturning a gnome with spinning top hat and will attempt to do it better next time. The plan is to master the spinning top first and then the gnome! Watch out for spinning top hat gnome part II in the very near future.
