Old Kone elevators in Kiev hotel /Ukraine

We walked 12 miles today and we came across these really cool lifts. All with touch buttons.
Had we been staying in the hotel then it would have made things a little easier. Took a while before someone came into the lift and inserted their key card and we ended up on floor 17.

At the end I talk about 'floor advancing'. I've used a couple of videos to demostrate what I mean. Two of them are mine, but one is from Vincent Chong who has been uploading videos for longer than I have! Thanks for allowing me to use it.

Anyway, back to DieselDucy's video, if you see 2:02, the carriage (this view is from the back, but it's more apparent from the front) is split. The side we are looking at, raises as soon as the lift heads up at 2:02. This is driven up (or down) but a motor mounted on the carriage. This motor raises the "split part" of the carriage 2 or 3 floors. This is the advancer system. About 1.5 seconds later (2:03) the carriage as a whole goes up, but with the split section looking for calls slightly ahead of the actual carriage.
Once it finds a call, the "V" cup thing on the end, lowers the split section back inline with the main carriage (this is the "slowing down" part). Fascinating system and I hope that made sense!?
