In this video, I’ll take you through the entire process of how I designed the thumbnail for “Top 100 Classic Rock Songs of All Time”, a visual that celebrates decades of pure rock greatness.
From the very beginning, my goal was to capture the essence of what Classic Rock means to millions of fans around the world: power, passion, and personality. I wanted the thumbnail to scream “rock” even before anyone read a single word. It had to feel loud, bold, and timeless — just like the guitars, drums, and voices that define this genre.
I started with the concept. I imagined four of the most iconic faces of rock music lined up together, each representing a different era and style — from raw rebellion to stadium anthems. I didn’t focus on the individuals themselves but on what they symbolize: attitude, charisma, and musical legacy. Each expression tells a story — confidence, chaos, emotion, and command. When combined, they create an electric wall of personality that instantly pulls in every Classic Rock fan.
Once I had the concept, I built the color palette. I chose deep red and gold as the main tones. Red symbolizes passion, power, and danger — everything that rock music embodies. Gold adds a touch of glory and timelessness, giving the thumbnail a premium, unforgettable look. Together, they create a balance of energy and elegance. I also used dark gradients to give the image depth and contrast, making each musician stand out as if they’re emerging from the flames of a concert stage.
