It's my pleasure and privilege to spread the word about an upcoming comedy competition called "America's Funniest Firefighter." If you know a "funny firefighter," whether active or retired, urge him or her to submit. If you are that "funny" firefighter, have some fun and submit. It's for a great cause and it will be a blast, in a good way (see video). The link to America's Funniest Firefighter is below. Click on it and submit! Help us in the fight against cancer, through early prevention, in firefighters and have a ball doing it! Stay tuned for more information.

The competition is to support and organization called Firefighters vs. Cancer, started by Mike Foley (see below). FFVC's mission is early detection. The mission of Firefighters Vs Cancer (FFVC) is to impart current and timely life-saving information to the international firefighting community about the necessity of cancer screening and so, "early detection," and to support similar organizations, those devoted to the same mission and goals of preserving the health and welfare of all firefighters in keeping with the dignity of their heroic calling.
FFVC was founded in March, 2022 by Mike Foley, Fire Lieutenant (Ret.), Boston Fire Department. Born into (and following) a long-standing family tradition, Mike has been associated with the Boston Fire Department for over seventy years. During that time, he has known hundreds - yes, hundreds; literally - of Boston firefighters who lost their lives to cancer.
Mike’s grandfather, a retired District Fire Chief, who served for 46 years, died of occupational cancer in 1972. His brother, a retired firefighter, who served for 30 years, died in 2014 of occupational cancer. Mike’s father, a retired Fire Lieutenant, who served for 42 years, died of pulmonary emphysema but was fighting Stage 3 cancer at the time of his death.
But the deaths of Mike’s family members, and the deaths of so many others, are not the reason FFVC was founded. Instead, the motivation is intensely personal because Mike’s son Tim and son-in-law Jimmy are presently serving as firefighters, a profession where the sobering reality confirms that roughly forty percent of firefighters working today will be diagnosed with cancer at some time during their careers.
