Papagena is the twenty-fifth studio album by Rondò Veneziano, released on November 26, 2001 by Baby Records International–Cleo Music AG and distributed by ZYX Music.
It is the group’s fourth concept album. The track Papagena is inspired by the character of the same name from The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, while the other pieces are inspired by the emotions experienced by Reverberi during his travels through various European cities: Dèsirèe (a girl he met in Paris), Il Balcone di Giulietta (Juliet’s Balcony, in Verona), Puerta del Sol (Door of the Sun, in Madrid), La Grotta Azzurra (The Blue Grotto, in Capri), Dopo il Concerto (After the Concert, evoking the emotions following a Brahms performance), Il Battistero (The Baptistery, of the Gedaechtniskirche in Berlin), Rifugio Alpino (Alpine Refuge, in Bergen), Viale Rossini (Rossini Avenue, in Genoa), and Alba Sul Mare (Sunrise over the Sea, in Gladsaxe). The album includes elements of Baroque pop and contemporary classical music and peaked at number 73 in Germany and 91 in Switzerland.
In France, the album was released under the title Vénitienne and includes the title track of the same name (corresponding to Papagena in the Italian version), an alternate version of Désirée, and three tracks from the albums Honeymoon – Luna di Miele and Marco Polo.
The cover illustration is by Victor Togliani, the graphic design is by Riccardo Andreoni, and the group’s logo was created by Enzo Mombrini and Erminia Munari.
