Chilka Lake is Asia's largest brackish water lagoon, located in Odisha, India, along the eastern coast near Puri. It spans about 1,100 square kilometers and serves as a vital Ramsar wetland site renowned for its biodiversity, including migratory birds, Irrawaddy dolphins, and rich fisheries.

The lake supports over a million migratory waterfowl in winter and hosts rare estuarine species, making it a prime spot for birdwatching and nature tours.

Islands like Kalijai and Nalabana offer scenic visits, while the lake connects to the Bay of Bengal via a narrow mouth.

Boating operates daily from around 6 AM to 6-7 PM at key points like Satapada, with motorboats available for dolphin spotting trips lasting 1-3.5 hours.


Official rates via Dolphin Motor Boat Association start at ₹2,400 for a group (up to 6 adults + 2 kids); private packages range ₹1,500-₹5,200 per boat.


Safety and TipsInsist on government-approved operators like Dolphin Motor Boat Association to avoid scams from private points pushed by drivers; life jackets are mandatory.
