DIY Project: Creating Extra-Large Prop Tombstones out of Styrofoam

We love store-bought tombstones to fill out a home haunt or decorate for Halloween, but there are times when a larger size prop is needed. If you need to hide fog machines, lights, or photograph a model with a prop, having an extra-large tombstone is very handy. A Styrofoam 4x8 foot sheet can make four extra-large tombstones for under $30. These are free standing when used indoors or can be staked for outdoor use. With a little creative time, custom detailing these sturdy headstones... you will have the perfect graveyard props that will last for years!

0:54 Cut Wood Backing
1:15 Sand Wood
1:24 Peel off plastic from Styrofoam
2:18 Cut Styrofoam out
3:05 Glue Styrofoam and wood together
3:18 Screw to secure wood
3:30 Add Wood Support to back
3:48 Punch Holes to trace pattern onto Styrofoam
4:09 Trace pattern with marker
5:23 Carve out pattern with Hot Tool
6:02 Use Propane Torch and water to add texture to stone
7:26 Cover Styrofoam with Monster Mud
8:15 Paint with Gray Craft Paint
9:04 Paint Lower Details with Black Craft Paint
10:09 Paint High Details with White Craft Paint
11:15 Final Extra-Large Tombstones
