This one’s a pretty clear nod to Talking Heads—those NYC art school legends from the mid-70s who brought their quirky genius to places like CBGB’s.
I’ve always loved Fear of Music, so I set out to write something in that same vein. This song is all about urgency and tension; it’s basically a plea to stay quiet and keep your head down. The repeated lines really drive home that sense of paranoia—like you’re constantly worried about being overheard. There’s this push and pull between wanting total silence and the basic human urge to communicate.
Getting the right sound and nailing David Byrne’s vocal style took forever, but once it clicked, I was honestly amazed. It really does feel like he just stepped into the studio to lay down these vocals. (And I think I managed to sneak a little bit of Tina’s vibe in there too!)
