Skepticism vs. Denialism: Know the Difference!

This video starts off with some examples of skepticism and then denialism. It's a bit much at first as I bounce around to various conspiracy/denialist talking-points but it all wraps up nicely in the end, I promise.

Skeptic: One who challenges questionable claims and seeks evidence for truth-claims without blindly accepting them based on faith, hearsay, tradition or popularity. This is not to be confused with 'cynic'. A skeptic should also understand why an expert's opinion is not the same as his/her own, especially in the presence of peer-review (from other scientists). The skeptic changes his/her mind based on the evidence, not the other way around.

Denialist: Denies evidence in whole or in part as part of confirmation bias for his/her assertions or constructs. This is often done from an emotional-investment to protect an idea, no matter how poorly-conceived or how much countervailing evidence exists. Example; moon-hoaxers, vaccine deniers, climate-change deniers, flat-Earthers, Creationists, evolution-deniers, etc.

Follow the evidence where it leads, honestly, and you'll be able to maximize being right and minimize being wrong. ;) That's a good skeptic.
