Dennis Wasserfall, the uncle of the late Shannon Wasserfall, who was murdered and buried at Walvis Bay in 2020, is disappointed and heartbroken over the WIndhoek High Court 's judgement that acquitted the two suspects involved in the case.
The court found the two suspects, Azaan Madisia and her brother and co-accused Steven Mulundu, not guilty of murdering 21-year-old Wasserfall at Walvis Bay in April 2020.
Madisia and Mulundu, who were arrested later that year, were charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and obstructing the course of justice by burying Wasserfall's body in a shallow grave at the town.
Wasserfall had been missing for over five months before her remains were discovered.
High Court Judge Christie Liebenberg acquitted Madisia and Mulundu of charges of murder, robbery, and theft. However, the siblings were found guilty of defeating and obstructing the course of justice, while Madisia was found guilty on two counts of fraud.
Dennis, who was surrounded by family and friends, told News on One that they didn't expect the High Court judgement.
"What happened today was heartbreaking. I didn't expect that the siblings were not charged for murder. It is heartbreaking and I cannot believe it up to now," stated the uncle.
Dennis added that they will go to court tomorrow for sentencing and depending on the outcome they will appeal because they want justice served.
" Since tomorrow is the sentencing, as a family we will go out and hear what the sentence will be and then after that we will take over from that. As a family, we will not sit back and watch this go under the ground. All we want, as Wasserfall, Matheus and all extended family, is justice for our child. That is all what we want".
