Ave Maria - Otello - G. Verdi - 1887 per Organo

I recorded, through GrandOrgue, a personal adaptation of the Ave Maria from Verdi’s Otello, based on the rare piano solo version by Michelle Saladino, published in the year of the opera’s premiere. This transcription seeks to preserve Verdi’s lyricism while translating it into the modern and expressive sound world of the Mascioni Giubasco organ.

The image used shows the Mascioni organ of Giubasco, the instrument whose timbres shaped this interpretation and whose Italian character remains clear even in its virtual form.

For this recording, I made extensive use of the Voz Umana 8’, exploring its natural beats to evoke the expressive shimmer of orchestral strings. Its wavering tone allowed the melody to move between soft and a restrained mezzo-forte, always within a contemplative, devotional atmosphere.

The Mascioni offers a blend of clarity and warmth: its flutes and principals provide a discreet harmonic foundation, while the Voz Umana traces a line that feels almost vocal. In this way, the Ave Maria emerges as a luminous, intimate meditation.

Gravei no sample do órgão Mascioni de Giubasco, através do GrandOrgue, uma adaptação da Ave Maria de Otello, de Giuseppe Verdi, inspirada na versão pianística de Michelle Saladino, publicada no ano da estreia da ópera. Minha transcrição busca preservar o lirismo verdiano e traduzi-lo para a estética moderna e luminosa deste instrumento italiano.

A imagem utilizada mostra o órgão Mascioni de Giubasco, cujos timbres deram vida a esta interpretação, mantendo sua identidade sonora mesmo em ambiente virtual.

Nesta gravação explorei intensamente a Voz Umana 8’, usando seus batimentos naturais para sugerir a vibração das cordas orquestrais. O timbre ondulante permitiu que a melodia fluísse entre o suave e um mezzoforte contido, sempre em atmosfera contemplativa e devocional.

O Mascioni une clareza e calor: flautas e principais sustentam a base harmônica com discrição, enquanto a Voz Umana delineia o “canto” com caráter quase vocal. Assim, esta Ave Maria surge como uma meditação iluminada, íntima e respirante.
