Can the viola be as virtuosic as the violin? 🎻🔥 Friedrich Hermann thought so. A student of Felix Mendelssohn, Hermann crafted these Concert Etudes to showcase the viola’s brilliance—blending technical fireworks with deep Romantic expression, much like Liszt’s etudes for piano.
At a time when the viola was seen as an accompaniment instrument, Hermann’s writing proved its soloistic power. These etudes remain underrated gems, pushing both the instrument and the performer to their limits.
