Turkey is one of the world's most frequent earthquakes occurrence countries. And the Marmara region is the largely populated area, where Istanbul is located. There is a fault line under the Sea of Marmara which is considered as an earthquake blank area, and it is said that the risk of earthquake and tsunami is high. This collaborative research project between Japan and Turkey (Project of Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Mitigation in the Marmara Region and Disaster Education in Turkey： May 2013 - April 2018) conducted earthquake observation and simulation in the Marmara Region and tried to strengthen disaster education in Turkey, based on the research outcomes.
