Initial attempts to clear the line using the yet to be refurbished snowplough, Alderman A E Scraper, proved unsuccessful due to the ice on the rail head working very effectively as wheel chocks. This, combined with the vehicle's weight of 20 tons, meant that the consist was all but immovable so we turned to plan B - Judy and Baskerville. They and their crews (Hans and Klauss on Judy, Murdo on Baskerville and the CEO on hand clearing duties) got the line cleared. Nobody's quite sure why this happened as no trains were scheduled for today... The snow caught everyone (except Hans) by surprise. Indeed, the CEO was working in his pyjamas, a dressing gown and wellies!
Snow is very rare here.
