Longgang District, under the Shenzhen Municipality of Guangdong Province, is located in the northeastern part of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, and was established on 11 November 1992. [It has a total administrative area of 388.21 square kilometres, bordering Daya Bay and Huizhou City in the east, Longhua District in Shenzhen City in the west, Luohu District and Yantian District in the south, Dapeng Bay and the New Territories of Hong Kong in the north, and Huizhou City and Dongguan City in the north; as of November 1, 2020, the total population of the district was 3979,037 (the resident population of the seventh census). Dafen Oil Painting Village and Huawei's headquarters are in the district. As of June 2020, Longgang District has 14 streets under its jurisdiction. 2021, the gross regional product of Longgang District is RMB 449.645 billion.
Longgang District is one of the most populated areas of the Hakka people in Shenzhen, with 181 immovable cultural relics of Hakka dwellings in existence. [98] The aboriginal population of Longgang mainly consists of Hakka and Guangfu people, with Hakka accounting for 90% of the household population. The Hakka culture is the "root of Longgang" and has coexisted, merged and flourished with the Guangfu culture, the Fulao culture and even the Western culture brought by overseas Chinese, leaving behind a large number of historical buildings, relics of old sites and cultural practices that are characteristic of the area. It is known as the "Hakka capital of the Pearl River Delta".
Longgang District is the birthplace of the Dongjiang Column and is an important old revolutionary area in Shenzhen. During the difficult war years, the people of Longgang made significant contributions to national independence and the establishment of a new China. The 202 existing immovable cultural relics, such as the Heshu Xinju, Maosheng Shiju and Guanxinhewei House, are mostly ancient sites, ancient buildings, important modern historical sites and representative buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China.
