A Tech Sewer CIPP

CIPP is a process in which we remanufacture a new pipe within the old pipe. It requires no excavation because it is installed typically through manholes or other access points. The CIPP process can be performed on lines up to 84" in diameter and for varying applications, such as sanitary sewers, storm sewers and culverts.

The CIPP process begins with pre-inspection of the pipe to locate obstructions that would need to be internally removed and to locate services to determine which are active. We also take accurate measurements on line length, diameter and depth. The data collected is then brought back to our facility where the process of pipe design calculations are performed with our software. This critical data is required to design a CIPP liner that, when installed, will meet or exceed ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) standards.

All data is then sent to our wet out facility, which is a division of Fast Pipe Liners, Inc. Wet out is the unseen critical process of impregnating a high quality felt tube with a calculated amount of catalyzed resin. After wet out, the product is loaded and cooled down for proper shipping to the job site. A successful CIPP liner installation can be directly related to a well run wet out facility.

Installation of the CIPP liner can be done using an inversion process or a pulled in place process. In the inversion process, we can use air and/or water. When using the inversion process, special care is taken in using the proper pressures and speed. Since the catalyzed resin is heat activated, we can use either steam or hot water to cure the liner. Careful monitoring of temperatures and pressures are required to assure the liner is properly cured. With proper cool down, we will have a new pipe within the old pipe, with the old pipe no longer being needed for structural support.

The next step in the process is reinstatement of services. This task is an art in itself, requiring specialized equipment and trained personnel. The active services must be accurately reinstated (opened up) and brushed (creating smooth transitions into the new pipe). Finally, after a post inspection is performed to ensure that quality is present throughout the length of the pipe, the CIPP process is completed.

The CIPP process offers several advantages to the customer. We can install a segment in one working day, without the disruption of day-to-day usage of their system. After the installation process, their system is sealed off from any ground water infiltration. Also, the customer will see increased flows with no joints and a smooth finish throughout. Streets remain open throughout the installation process.
