''Greg Ginn has always been one of my biggest guitar inspirations! Concerning Black Flag maybe even more than (also beloved) Henry Rollins! I discovered the Black Flag name quite early but never took it seriously cos I thought that it was some kind of stupid agressive punk (I started listening music straight from prog and classic metal :)) So you can imagine how surprised I was when I finally listened (approximately in 2004) to "Slip It In"! Guitar was screaming, squealing, sqwuaking, boiling, agonizing, howling and erupting with fountain of the "wrong notes". It was so fresh and unique for me that it seemed that I discovered the whole new genre of music!
So in 2004 I collected all possible Black Flag records and became huge diehard fan for a lifetime! And here I am. After 10 years of my first Black Flag experience, almost 30 years after "The Process of Weeding Out" release, to celebrate Greg's 60th birthday I decided to make my version of this wonderful EP!
During this session I tried to incorporate all the tricks I learned from Greg's playing with Black Flag and Gone. Though you can never beat the master :) First three tracks were recorded very quickly, they were actually the first takes and we left them. Everything was improvised live in the studio, I just added some synths in "Your Last Effort" (it made it sound a bit like Acid Mothers Temple which is not bad). As for "Southern Rise" it took us around an hour to understand what we can do with the one-chord jam. To my taste it was the weakest track on the original EP, so we tried to improve it and it seems that we composed something completely different but still inspired by what Greg, Kira and Bill did.
So here is the result. And long live Greg Ginn :)
